While I enjoyed it at the time, I wasn’t going to re-buy it for a new-gen console, and since I’ve last played it, I sold my 360 since I own both a PS4 and One now. For someone like me, I bought and beat the game on 360. I don’t play GTA Online, for example, but I sure has hell would have shelled out $20 for a great story DLC pack.īut again, the cross-gen issue was relevant in that situation too. The story DLC issue still irks me, because they’ve sold 50M+ copies of the game, and they’re not even going to have any single player DLC? For as much as they’re making on GTA Online microtransactions, that still seems insane to me, as it could have attracted an entirely different kind of paying audience. Rockstar’s follow-up support for GTA 5 has always perplexed me. Granted, it’s not like they’re shutting down GTA Online completely on those platforms, but with no new updates and probably less attention for bug or exploit fixes, it could descend into the wild west pretty fast, or conversely become dull with a lack of new content. That means culling all 360 and PS3 players from future GTA Online updates is a pretty big deal. I don’t know the exact split between the number of GTA Online players on new-gen and the number on last-gen, but I have to believe it’s a much larger ratio than other cross-gen titles, given how the game was released. Rather, you’d have to simply buy the game twice if you wanted to start playing on a new console, which isn’t exactly the most attractive prospect.
